Are Celebrity Impersonators better than the real thing?

The answer is YES! The value a well seasoned celebrity impersonator can bring to your event is unparalleled. The real celebrity would cost a fortune, have an insane rider and want first class treatment for themselves and their entourage. Professional celebrity impersonators have worked hundreds of events and are experts. The best celebrity impersonators are trained entertainers who have a back ground in improv, stand up comedy and acting, consider those points when booking your talent.

How To Be Creative Every Day

As a performer/writer creativity is key to my success. I have to keep creating new material , characters, voices all the time. Along with approaches to finding work. The question is: How do you define Creativity? Creativity is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others. But what drives people to be creative? Three reasons why people are motivated to be creative:

  1. need for novel, varied, and complex stimulation
  2. need to communicate ideas and values
  3. need to solve problems

In order to be creative, you need to be able to view things in new ways or from a different perspective. Among other things, you need to be able to generate new possibilities or new alternatives. Tests of creativity measure not only the number of alternatives that people can generate but the uniqueness of those alternatives. the ability to generate alternatives or to see things uniquely does not occur by change; it is linked to other, more fundamental qualities of thinking, such as flexibility, tolerance of ambiguity or unpredictability, and the enjoyment of things heretofore unknown. From Human Motivation, 3rd ed., by Robert E. Franken. My view on creativity is more simplistic, it is the ability to take different ideas that are floating in the universal consciousness and bring them together in a new and exciting way.

Tips from the Road and Working There Part 1

One of the best parts of being a performer is the opportunity to travel. Since virtually all of my work is at national sales meetings, product launches and trade shows in great cities including San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, San Diego and LA it’s important I stay connected and wired. Any person who runs their own company and handles every aspect of their own business can attest to the importance of staying connected and working just about anywhere an airport, hotel lobby, backstage. To do this I have the requesite laptop actually a MacBook Air which is truly light as a feather and my iPhone.

  1. Get Rid of the Extras. Everyone likes to be prepared but cut it down to the absolute essentials.
  2. Use The Cloud. With google docs and other Cloud serves your world can be accessible from anywhere in the world.
  3. Automate Your World. Schedule payments ahead of time through your bank to reduce worry. You may also be able to answer most email questions with an automated email, or handle other business details.
  4. Use LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter to let people know where you are. This will help promote you and your business plus the added benefit of clients knowing you’re busy.
  5. Keep records Virtually. You’re not just a traveler, you’re out there doing work for your business. There are iPhone, Blackberry and Droid apps designed to make this part of biz travel easy and you can use your camera phone to take pictures of your receipts.

These are just a few tips. Check back for more in the coming weeks.

Are Producers Really Needed?

I was on a booking for a large national industrial roofing corporation. The event was at a hotel I had performed at many times, the Westin La Paloma.

I've had great experiences there with some big production companies.

I was Austin Powers for the cocktail "hour" and Donald Trump for the awards show. I have done this set up many times but always with a production company behind me. This was not the case at this particular event. The client essentially produced the show themselves with limited outside assistance. The evening started off great for me. Austin was a huge hit in the cocktail "hour". I worked the room: met and was photographed with virtually everyone in attendance. This was possible because the "hour" turned into an hour and a half, then two hours. Why? Because this was the evening of the play off game between the Saints and the Vikings, monitors had been set up in the room and a large majority of the people were watching the game intently. An event being a full hour behind schedule is not a good thing but the game dictated the schedule. If you've ever been on any event that has fallen behind schedule they tend to fall further behind schedule as the night goes on.
